First woman to hold the Canadian Armed Forces’ top job

 Lieutenant-General Jennie Carignan is going to be Canada’s next Defence chief. In 2008, she became the first woman to lead a combat force in the Canadian military, and as of July 18th, she will be the first woman to hold the Canadian Armed Forces’ top job. Carignan joined the military in 1986. She served in Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Iraq and has received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Governor General’s Order of Military Merit.
