A woman was sexually assaulted in an Abbotsford park on Wednesday afternoon, and authorities are now working to identify the suspect.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department, officers responded to Fishtrap Creek Park at approximately 12:45 p.m. after receiving a report of the incident.
Police say the victim was walking alone when a man approached her, attempted to start a conversation, and then followed her for a short distance. “When the woman tried to leave, the man sexually assaulted her,” the statement reads. “She managed to escape and alert nearby witnesses, who then contacted police.”
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries. Investigators have released an image of the suspect and are urging anyone who recognizes him to call 911, advising the public not to approach him. “The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit is in the early stages of the investigation,” police said. “Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the man in the photograph.”
