New Westminster police officers successfully rescued a woman in distress from the Fraser River early on July 27.
Authorities reported that the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) received a request for assistance from Richmond RCMP at approximately 4:00 a.m. The request was to locate a woman in crisis who was believed to be in the river.
Two NWPD officers boarded the police boat and joined the Canadian Coast Guard in the search for the missing woman. After approximately 30 minutes, officers located the woman clinging to a log boom. They immediately provided life-saving first aid until BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived on the scene.
“One of the overarching goals of the New Westminster Police Department is to save lives, and the work of these officers demonstrates just that,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “We’re pleased they found this woman and connected with her healthcare team.”
