A woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in a Penticton apartment over the weekend, according to the RCMP.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Lakeshore Drive on Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman deceased inside the apartment with a fatal gunshot wound.
In a statement released by the Penticton RCMP, the incident is described as an “isolated event,” and authorities say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The identity of the victim has not been released. One person was taken into custody in connection with the incident but has since been released. Police have not disclosed any further details about the individual, including their gender or potential relationship to the victim.
“This is a tragic event. We would like to offer our condolences to the victim’s friends and family at this time,” said Staff Sgt. Scott Hanry of the Penticton RCMP.
The investigation remains ongoing.
