The City of West Kelowna has denied a permit for a concert by American Christian singer Sean Feucht, a supporter of Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign, citing public safety reasons.

In an email statement on Wednesday, the city said a permit for Saturday’s concert at Memorial Park was requested by Burn 24/7 Canada Worship Ministries Society.

“The city, with assistance from the RCMP and West Kelowna Fire Rescue, re-evaluated the safety plans submitted by the organizer and determined that potential public safety risks had not been adequately mitigated,” the statement said.

Feucht, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress as a Republican in 2020, has been criticized for his comments about the LGBTQ+ community and abortion.

Last month, the City of Abbotsford in B.C.’s Fraser Valley also denied a permit for a concert scheduled for this Sunday at Mill Lake Park. Six of Feucht’s concerts in Central and Eastern Canada have also been cancelled.
