A wildfire in the Lytton area, which was almost entirely destroyed by fire in 2021, has prompted evacuation alerts for properties and is described as “very frightening” for the community by the BC Wildfire Service

Cliff Chapman, Director of Operations for the BC Wildfire Service, stated that heat, terrain, and winds are challenging firefighting efforts on the Cantilever Bar wildfire, which has now grown to approximately 4.6 square kilometers.

Despite the difficult conditions, Chapman confirmed that firefighting crews are working around the clock to do everything they can to contain the blaze, which was discovered on Monday.

The service reports that 45 firefighters have been deployed to combat the fire, supported by three helicopters. Additionally, structure protection personnel are on site to safeguard properties.
