A Vancouver woman has been sentenced for the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old man in a random attack that occurred three years ago.

Lyndsay Scott, 37, was originally charged with second-degree murder but was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter following a jury trial, according to Vancouver police.

In a news release, police stated that Scott received a six-year prison sentence, followed by three years of probation, during which she must undergo mandatory treatment at a forensic psychiatric hospital. She has also been handed a 10-year firearms prohibition.

The court determined that mental illness and drug use played a role in the deadly stabbing.

The attack took place on July 11, 2022, in Vancouver’s Yaletown area, where Justin Mohrmann was stabbed in what authorities described as a random, unprovoked assault.

Police said Scott was arrested near the scene shortly after the incident, and Mohrmann was rushed to hospital but died shortly after arriving.
