The man accused of ramming an SUV into a crowd and killing 11 people at the Lapu-Lapu Day festival in Vancouver is scheduled to appear in court today. A judge will determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial.
Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, is now facing three additional counts of second-degree murder, bringing the total number of murder charges against him to 11, according to police.
Lo is accused of driving his SUV through a crowd of people at the Filipino community’s Lapu-Lapu Day street festival on April 26, an incident that resulted in 11 deaths and dozens more injuries.
R-J Aquino, chair of festival organizer Filipino B-C, stated that the court proceedings could be traumatizing for victims and members of the Filipino community, many of whom are still experiencing anger and frustration following the April 26 attack. Aquino added that Filipino B-C will prepare for all possible outcomes and continue to provide support for victims’ families and community members.
