Tenants at a mobile home park on Songhees First Nation reserve land on Vancouver Island have lost a court challenge against their evictions.
A judge’s ruling stated the court has “a great deal of sympathy” for the residents, many of whom are elderly, face health problems, and have lived there for decades.
The ruling indicated that many tenants mistakenly believed the mobile home park lands were covered by a 99-year lease, but they were in fact month-to-month tenants.
Their lawyer reported that the 30 plaintiffs have been given until August 15 to vacate, but an appeal of the ruling has been filed.
