Sustainable Solutions

Living sustainably is accessible for homeowners and renters alike. Showgoers will get inspired to lead a more sustainable life on the homefront with new feature Sustainable Living, presented by IKEA. IKEA’s in-green-nious Sell-Back Program will be on display in the feature showing just how easy it is to incorporate gently-used furniture into any space. Vancouverites will also learn how to earn in-store credit while giving furniture a second life.

Other interactive and sustainably minded features include the BC Hydro Learning Centre. Homeowners will learn where electricity comes from in B.C. and how to use the same system throughout the seasons for home cooling and heating for optimal energy usage.

Shop Local

Supporting local businesses is more important than ever. This season, for the first time at the Show, discover Vancouver’s largest craft fair, Got Craft?. This curated market will showcase fresh independent craft and design, makers and small shops including Irit Sorokin Designs, Raising Humans Co and Holt & Lamb.

Showgoers can also support local talent with hands-on WORKSHOP’s where attendees can learn from some of Vancouver’s finest local creators in a variety of categories, including Dried by Design, Blim and Plantsome. DIY crafts to explore include creating a dried floral bouquet, building a terrarium, screen-printing and more. Those interested can reserve a spot online directly with each vendor. As a bonus, each workshop spot comes with a ticket to the Show.

In addition to workshops, Vancouver-based plant company Plantsome will showcase a brand new plant-filled Show feature, Take It or Leaf It. Showgoers will walk through four different vignettes, learning about different types of plants including those that are pet-friendly, easy to care for, big and leafy and ones with a pop of colour. Visitors will walk away with knowledge, inspiration and maybe even a plant or two, with a wide selection of houseplants available for purchase.

Small Space Living

With space continuing to be a premium commodity in the Lower Mainland, local company Hewing Haus has come up with the perfect solution with its customizable, modular and prefabricated small-footprint dwellings. At this year’s Show, they will showcase their 200 sq ft home, designed with a built-in Murphy bed, full bathroom and kitchen as well as a deck. Learn to live small and save big.

Return to Entertaining

As many Vancouverites return to hosting, Q Living is here to help inspire with Set for the Season, a feature showcasing seasonal (and beautiful) table settings. Peruse four table displays that are thoughtfully decorated for each season. All holidays are off the table (literally), instead focusing on what inspires as we transition through the year. After exploring the Show floor visitors will be able to get a taste for entertaining at the Show’s very own Eatery presented by Midland Appliance. While snacking on locally-sourced food delights and sipping on a crisp glass of BC wine or cider guests will be inspired by the space itself, artfully designed by PIC your NIC.

The Vancouver Fall Home Show runs from Thursday, October 14 at 4 p.m. to Sunday, October 17 at 6 p.m. at the Vancouver Convention Centre – West. Tickets must be purchased online as there will be no onsite Box Office. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit vancouverfallhomeshow.com.
