Vancouver City Manager Paul Mochrie has stepped down.

Mayor Ken Sim announced that Paul Mochrie is resigning from his role as City Manager. He held the position for over four years and had served in other senior roles with the city for a decade prior.

“We thank Paul for his 14 years of dedicated service, including the last four years as City Manager, and wish him success in his future endeavors,” Mayor Sim said in a statement.

As City Manager, Mochrie oversaw nearly 10,000 Vancouver employees, with various departmental heads reporting to his office. While the City Manager role is non-political, the position acts as a liaison between the City Council and staff.

Mochrie, who was Deputy City Manager when he replaced Sadhu Johnston in 2021, earned $387,110 last year. This was more than any other city employee except the now-retired former Vancouver Police Department Chief Adam Palmer.

Sim’s statement added that Mochrie will assist with the transition, and Deputy City Manager Karen Levitt will become interim City Manager until the city appoints a permanent replacement.
