A train derailed near the Canada-U.S. border in Abbotsford Thursday night, but authorities confirm no one was injured.
The Abbotsford Police Department initially reported the derailment on 4th Avenue around 10:30 p.m., noting it caused a “significant block” on both sides of the tracks.
As of 6:30 a.m. Friday, 4th Avenue remains closed between West Railway Avenue and the commercial vehicle entrance for the Sumas border crossing. However, police say access to the border crossing itself is not affected.
Police anticipate the road will stay closed for a “considerable amount of the day” as heavy equipment is needed to clear the train cars.
