Three men are facing charges following an investigation into a series of extortion-related shootings in Surrey led by the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force.
Officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit responded on Nov. 8, 2025, to reports of shots fired at a home in the 17000 block of 32 Avenue. Police confirmed the residence had been struck by gunfire. A second shooting at the same address was reported on Nov. 12.
Following coordination between investigative units, the extortion task force assumed conduct of both cases, treating them as part of a broader series.
In December 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of unlawfully discharging a firearm against Avtar Singh, who was 21 at the time.
On Feb. 27, 2026, prosecutors approved additional charges.
Avtar Singh, 22, is charged with extortion and previously with unlawfully discharging a firearm.
Sandeep Singh, 28, is charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm in connection with the Nov. 12 shooting and with extortion.
Jagdeep Singh, 24, is charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm in connection with the Nov. 8 shooting and with extortion.
Avtar Singh and Sandeep Singh remain in custody. Jagdeep Singh is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant issued out of Alberta, and is also the subject of a Canada-wide immigration warrant by the Canada Border Services Agency. Police are seeking public assistance to locate him.
Chief Supt. Duncan Pound said extortion investigations require extensive coordination and evidence gathering, adding the task force is working with partners across Canada to advance the files. Authorities confirmed related charges have also been announced in Alberta as part of the ongoing investigation.
The task force acknowledged support from multiple agencies nationwide as efforts continue to identify suspects and bring those responsible to justice.
