The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has announced that murder charges have been laid against three men in connection with a shooting that occurred in Chilliwack on February 15.

The accused have been identified as 50-year-old Jason Himpfen, 34-year-old Zoltan Losier, and 40-year-old Christopher Meischl.

On February 15, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Chilliwack RCMP responded to reports of gunfire inside a residence on Mellard Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

48-year-old Kristopher Benson was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains under medical care.

In a coordinated effort with the Emergency Response Team (IERT), IHIT investigators conducted three separate raids on February 18 and 19, resulting in the successful apprehension of the suspects. The BC Prosecution Service has since approved charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder against all three individuals.

Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT praised the rapid pace of the investigation, stating, “This was a fast-paced investigation, and our team worked day and night to follow the evidence. Thanks to the support of our policing partners, we were able to take the suspects into custody quickly and safely.”

While the suspects are now in custody, the investigation remains active as authorities continue to determine the motive behind the attack.
