The president of the B.C. General Employees’ Union says they are cautiously optimistic about reaching a deal as negotiations with the provincial government are set to resume Monday. Paul Finch noted that while inflation and the cost of living have risen sharply over the past decade, wages for union members have not kept up. The union has staged escalating job actions over the past four weeks, with as many as 15,000 workers participating in picketing and overtime bans. Finch confirmed that the government has reached out to restart talks, but existing picket lines across the province will remain in place during negotiations.
