A man accused of carjacking a vehicle and causing a rollover crash was arrested by Vancouver Police early this morning.
Officers were called around 5:30 a.m. after reports that a Good Samaritan had stopped to assist someone who appeared to be in distress near Granville Street and West 37th Avenue. The driver agreed to take the individual to a police station.
While inside the vehicle, the suspect allegedly produced a weapon, forced the driver out, and sped off. Police say the suspect later struck another vehicle before the stolen car flipped onto its roof and came to rest near Granville Street and Broadway.
An off-duty Vancouver police officer who witnessed the incident assisted in arresting the suspect as on-duty officers arrived.
The 30-year-old suspect remains in hospital in police custody. The victim did not suffer any serious injuries.
