Surrey witness surge in crimes against persons in second quarter

According to data from the Surrey Police Service (SPS), crimes against persons in the second quarter of 2025 saw a significant 26% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This trend was observed across all five policing districts.

A total of 1,893 crimes against persons were reported in Q2 of this year, up from 1,504 in Q2 2024.

The breakdown by district shows varying increases:

Whalley/City Centre (District 1): A 26% increase, from 470 to 591 cases.

Guildford (District 2): A 14% rise, from 291 to 333 cases.

Newton (District 3): Recorded the largest surge at 44%, from 441 to 635 cases.

Cloverdale (District 4): Saw a 9% increase, from 164 to 179 cases.

South Surrey (District 5): A 3% rise, from 131 to 135 cases.

In contrast, total property crimes in Surrey dropped by 12% in the second quarter of 2025, falling from 5,055 to 4,463. This decrease was not uniform across all districts: District 1 saw a 25% decrease, District 2 a 20% increase, District 3 a 40% decrease, and Districts 4 and 5 had modest increases of 3% and 4% respectively.

Overall, the SPS received 89,399 calls for service in the first half of 2025, a 4% drop from the 93,270 calls received during the same period in 2024.
