Surrey Police Service says 25 drivers were charged with excessive speeding and had their vehicles impounded during enforcement between March 6 and 9. Officers with the Road Safety Section say the operation targeted dangerous driving behaviours that put the community at risk.
Police recorded several extreme speeds, including 183 km/h in an 80 km/h zone and 139 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Some drivers were also found without insurance or a valid licence, while several novice Class 7N drivers were among those caught speeding.
Four vehicles were travelling more than double the posted speed limit, and 12 drivers were clocked above 120 km/h, the highest legal speed in B.C. Police say they have zero tolerance for excessive speeding and will continue enforcement to improve road safety.
