Project IRIS is being relaunched under the Surrey Police Service (SPS), which has taken over the voluntary CCTV camera registry from the City of Surrey. The confidential database allows residents and businesses to register external security cameras to help police identify potential video evidence more quickly during investigations. Officers do not have direct access to live feeds or recordings and must obtain permission from owners before accessing footage. The program aims to improve investigative efficiency, reduce neighborhood canvassing and enhance community safety. Previous participants must re-register, as existing records cannot be transferred to SPS.
