Surrey Mayor rejects “excessive” police budget that could raise taxes 18%

The Mayor of Surrey Brenda Locke says the newly proposed Surrey Police Service budget—which includes a $91-million increase and could trigger an 18% property tax hike—is excessive and cannot be supported in its current form.  Talking to RED FM News Director Harjinder Thind, she reiterated that she is committed to improving public safety and hiring more officers but stresses the need for fiscal responsibility.
