Surrey man charged with 15 counts in fatal 2024 accident

Following an investigation spanning over a year by BC Highway Patrol, a Surrey man has been formally charged with 15 criminal counts in connection with a fatal collision in 2024 that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others.

The collision occurred on February 18, 2024, at 3:00 a.m., involving a minivan and a Tesla on Highway1 eastbound near the Sprott Street exit in Burnaby, B.C. The crash claimed the lives of two Maple Ridge women, aged 20 and 23. Additionally, two other women from Maple Ridge sustained serious injuries, along with a man from Surrey.

On June 9, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service laid 15 charges against 35-year-old Chi Sun Park.

As per official record, two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, section 320.13(3) of the Criminal Code; three counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, section 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code; two counts of operation of a conveyance while impaired by drugs causing death, section 320.14(3) of the Criminal Code. three counts of operation of a conveyance while impaired by drugs causing bodily harm, section 320.14(2) of the Criminal Code; two counts of operation of a conveyance with a blood drug concentration that exceeded the concentration for methamphetamine prescribed by regulation causing death, contrary to Section 320.14(3) of the Criminal Code and three counts of operation of a conveyance with a blood drug concentration that exceeded the concentration for methamphetamine prescribed by regulation causing bodily harm, contrary to Section 320.14(2) of the Criminal Code were laid by the police against the accused.

Park’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 24, 2025, at Vancouver Provincial Court.
