The Supreme Court of India on Monday granted bail to senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a high-profile disproportionate assets case. Majithia is accused of accumulating wealth exceeding ₹540 crore beyond his known sources of income.

The Supreme Court bench delivered the verdict after Majithia challenged a previous ruling by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had denied him bail. In its decision, the bench noted that Majithia has been in custody for the past seven months and that the police report has already been filed. The court also pointed out that while the FIR was registered in 2025, the allegations pertain to assets acquired between 2007 and 2017. The court added that the government remains free to request strict conditions during the trial court proceedings.

The corruption case was registered in June 2025 following a report by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT alleged that Majithia and his wife collected over ₹540 crore through illegal means, leading to his arrest on June 25, 2025. Last December, the High Court had dismissed his bail plea, categorizing the matter as a “serious economic offense.”

In a significant development, Gurinder Singh Dhillon, the head of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, broke his usual silence on political matters to support Majithia. Following a 30-minute closed-door meeting with the leader at the New District Jail in Nabha, the Dera chief described the drug-related money laundering allegations against Majithia as “false.”

The timing of this high-profile meeting, coinciding with the Supreme Court’s bail order, has gained immense political attention in Punjab. The Dera chief’s outright rejection of the serious charges against Majithia is seen as a major boost for the Akali leader as he prepares to step out of custody.
