Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim says the provincial government has agreed to relocate supportive housing from the city’s Granville Entertainment District following a recent fire at a facility that has generated hundreds of emergency calls. Sim said he spoke with B.C. Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon after the fire, and Kahlon committed to moving the housing out of the area, though no timeline was provided.

Alan Goodall, owner of the Aura nightclub located on the ground floor of the building, said his ceiling has collapsed three times in the past month due to disturbances from the units above. Vancouver Fire Rescue Services says two people were injured in Wednesday’s fire at the former Howard Johnson hotel, which the province bought for supportive housing in 2020.
