Stellantis recalls over 3,000 Jeep vehicles in Canada due to software problem

Stellantis announced that nearly 3,500 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid models are being recalled due to a software error that could cause the vehicle to lose power while driving.

A company spokesperson explained that, in some cases, the hybrid control processor (HCP) may misinterpret signals from the battery pack control module (BPCM). This could cause the propulsion system to shut down unexpectedly, raising the risk of a crash.

Of the 3,476 affected vehicles from model years 2022 to 2026, nearly 3,500 were sold in Canada, around 1,800 in Mexico, and about 5,400 in other markets outside North America. No accidents or injuries linked to this issue have been reported.

In the U.S., the Department of Transportation recalled 91,787 of the same vehicles last week. According to the department, the problem began in July 2021, when the faulty software was introduced, and continued until the issue was addressed during vehicle production. Vehicles not included in the recall either lack the affected HCP or were built after the problem period.

Stellantis confirmed that customers will be notified when free service is available and can reach out to the company with any questions.
