Shots fired in Surrey high-rise at City Centre

Surrey police are investigating a shooting incident after gunfire broke out inside a residential high-rise in the city’s City Centre neighborhood.

The Incident At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, January 19, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired within a building in the 9600 block of 136A Street. Upon arrival, officers identified the specific suite where the shots originated.

Police action and investigation evidence suggests that bullets were fired both inside the apartment unit and outside on the balcony. Several individuals found inside the suite were initially detained for questioning as part of the investigation. While the building was occupied at the time, authorities have confirmed that no injuries were reported.

The investigation has been elevated to the SPS Major Crime Section, supported by the Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIS). Despite the initial detentions, police have since released all individuals from custody as they work to determine a motive for the shooting.

A violent 24 hours this high-rise shooting marks the second incident involving gunfire in Surrey today, following an earlier suspected extortion-related shooting at an auto shop in East Cloverdale.

SPS is asking anyone with information or footage from the City Centre area around the time of the shooting to contact investigators immediately.
