Police have reported a second arrest related to a gunfight that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Mohawk College student in Hamilton, who was tragically killed by a stray bullet while waiting for a bus.
Earlier, authorities confirmed that Harsimrat Randhawa, an international student from India, was fatally struck near the intersection of Upper James Street and South Bend Road around 7:30 p.m. on April 17. Randhawa had just left a local gym and was on her way home when a single bullet hit her during a gunfire exchange between two groups.
On Thursday, police announced the arrest of 32-year-old Jerdaine Foster, who has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting. Investigators also revealed they are searching for several other suspects involved in the incident that led to Randhawa’s death.
On Friday, police confirmed a second arrest.26-year-old Obiesea Okafor was taken into custody in North York and brought back to Hamilton. He faces three counts of attempted murder.
Authorities have not released details about the other suspects but say at least seven individuals were involved in the dispute that night.
