Richmond RCMP is stepping up its efforts to combat driving violations this summer, issuing 1,067 traffic violation tickets in July as part of its ongoing push to improve road safety.

In a breakdown of offenses, authorities issued 234 tickets for speeding, while 91 were for distracted driving. Impaired driving accounted for 25 tickets, with 239 issued for various vehicle-related violations. Additionally, 175 tickets were handed out for driver’s license infractions.

According to authorities, the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) will be conducting roadside safety checks throughout the city during the summer months to keep impaired drivers off the road.

Sergeant Eric Baskette of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit stressed the importance of making safe choices. “Summertime is often a time of fun and making memories together. However, every year, we see tragic, preventable deaths related to drug and alcohol consumption before getting behind the wheel,” he said. “We implore everyone to do their part in keeping impaired drivers off the road. Whether it’s yourself or a loved one, have a serious look at whether the plan to drive is the right one.”
