As Punjab faces its worst flood tragedy in decades, RED FM, successfully raised over $1.5 million during a special Radiothon fundraiser held on September 4, 2025. The funds will be used to assist families affected by the recent catastrophic floods in Punjab, India.
Donation pledges were made through RED FM’s stations in Surrey (93.1 & 89.1 FM) and Calgary (106.7 FM). A separate Radiothon is scheduled for Toronto’s 88.9 RED FM on September 5, 2025.
The urgent need for aid is critical, with over 1,900 villages submerged and thousands displaced. The Punjabi and broader South Asian community across Canada came together to provide essential relief, shelter, and hope to those in need.
All funds raised during the Radiothon will be directed to SAF International (Sikhi Awareness Foundation), a Surrey-based non-profit organization with active humanitarian programs in India and Australia. SAF International will implement a three-phase relief strategy, including emergency response, rehabilitation, and long-term rebuilding support.
RED FM President Kulwinder Sanghera expressed his gratitude for the community’s support. “In the 19 years we’ve been organizing Radiothons, the response from our community has always been exceptional,” Sanghera said. “The South Asian community continues to step up, time and again, to support those in need.”
Shamandeep Singh, Founder of SAF International, also highlighted the community’s generosity. “The power and generosity of the Punjabi community is truly inspiring. These donations will bring hope and tangible support to families facing unimaginable hardship,” he said.
Since 2007, RED FM has raised more than $21 million for various charitable causes, including the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Guru Nanak Food Bank. The station has also mobilized funds for local and international disasters, such as the Fort McMurray wildfires and earthquakes in Haiti and Nepal.
