Police in Nanaimo, B.C., are looking into multiple reports of a prowler seen in residential areas over the past few weeks.
According to the Nanaimo RCMP, the detachment has received several complaints since early August about an unknown man entering private property and peering into windows in south and central Nanaimo.
Most of the incidents happened late at night, though some occurred in broad daylight, police said Wednesday. Investigators are treating the matter as a priority due to community concerns and have increased patrols in the affected neighbourhoods while following up on leads.
Authorities are urging residents to keep doors and windows locked, use outdoor lighting or motion sensors if possible, and report any suspicious activity to 911.
“These incidents are understandably very unsettling for residents,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, spokesperson for Nanaimo RCMP. “We want to reassure the public that we are taking these reports seriously and encourage anyone who notices suspicious behaviour to contact us immediately.”
No suspect description has been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
