Punjabi businessman shot dead in Abbotsford’s Townline area

A 68-year-old Punjabi businessman was shot dead on Monday morning in Abbotsford’s Townline area. The victim is identified as Darshan Singh Sahsi.

As per information, he was shot dead outside his residence on Ridgeview Drive. Sahsi, who belongs to Ludhiana district, ran a large clothing recycling business in Maple Ridge, B.C.

The Abbotsford Police Department said police are currently on scene following a shooting that occurred at 9:22 am this morning in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive. One adult male was shot. As a precaution, three nearby schools were briefly placed under a shelter-in-place protocol. No students were harmed or directly impacted.

“The incident occurred on the street and remains an active investigation. A significant police presence will remain in the area throughout the day supporting the ongoing investigation,” police said.

Later in an update Abbotsford Police confirmed that the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

This is the second target killing among Punjabi community in the lower mainland as Abbotsford businessman, Satwinder Sharma, was similarly shot dead at his office in Surrey earlier in June.
