Prime Minister Mark Carney will embark on a comprehensive tour of the Indo-Pacific region starting February 26, according to an official statement released by the federal government on Monday. The mission, which is scheduled to run from February 26 to March 7, will see the Prime Minister visit India first, followed by high-level stops in Australia and Japan.

During the visit, Mark Carney is slated to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss bilateral interests. He is also scheduled to hold talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The diplomatic mission signals Canada’s commitment to strengthening its presence and partnerships across the Indo-Pacific theater.

Discussions in India will focus on revitalizing ties in the sectors of trade, technology, energy, and defense. A significant portion of the dialogue is expected to center on advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and securing a stable supply chain for critical minerals, which are essential for modern green technologies and manufacturing.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes meetings with government officials and prominent business leaders in both Mumbai and New Delhi. These engagements are aimed at fostering direct investment and identifying shared economic goals between the two nations.

Official statements from Ottawa emphasized that the primary goal of the tour is to create new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses. For India, the collaboration is equally vital as New Delhi seeks to expand its economic partnerships and engage with key Indo-Pacific nations to foster cooperation in emerging technologies.
