The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) says it will lift its overtime ban starting Monday at 12:01 a.m., replacing it with a ban on the delivery of commercial flyers.
CUPW President Jan Simpson has urged Canada Post to return to the bargaining table to resolve the dispute before the busy holiday season.
The union has had a ban on overtime work since the end of May while it tried to reach a new agreement with Canada Post.
Last month, CUPW responded to Canada Post’s latest offers with a proposal that demanded higher wages but included some concessions for part-time employees.
Canada Post has not yet formally responded to the union’s proposals, but has told the union to align its expectations with the Crown Corporation’s dire financial situation. The corporation claims that uncertainty over the labor talks is harming its business and costing it millions of dollars a day.
