Courthouses in Williams Lake and Prince George were evacuated Thursday morning (Aug. 21) following potential bomb threats.

According to RCMP, the Williams Lake government building will soon return to normal operations, with no ongoing risk to public safety. After investigating the threats complaint on-site, RCMP confirmed that courthouse, public health, court registry, and Service BC services will resume. The investigation is still underway.

The RCMP have confirmed that the bomb threat at the Prince George courthouse was false.

“Police officers will be allowing people to return to the downtown area, the courthouse, and nearby businesses,” said media relations officer Cpl. Jennifer Cooper. “We thank everyone for cooperating and staying away from downtown while our investigation was underway.”

Officers are continuing their investigation to identify who made the false report to the courthouse.

RCMP described the situation as a “high-risk investigation” and confirmed the Prince George evacuation was due to a “potential bomb threat.”
