The Police have recovered stolen vehicles valued at $3.8 million from a British Columbia port, uncovering a major auto theft operation linked to an organized crime group based in Ontario.
During an update on “Project Road King”—a large-scale investigation launched in 2024—the Niagara Regional Police revealed that the operation has already resulted in over 200 charges against 30 individuals for offenses related to vehicle theft and drug trafficking. The multi-jurisdictional effort includes the RCMP, CBSA, and police services from Hamilton and Brantford.
Investigators reached the B.C. port following extensive forensic analysis of seized electronic devices and other physical evidence. Upon arrival, officers discovered 43 stolen vehicles that investigators believe were destined for international markets. This significant seizure highlights the sophisticated methods used by organized crime networks to move high-value stolen property across provincial lines for export.
Three primary suspects are currently in custody: Keir McColl (39), Tudor Sopterian (32), and Dejan Zlojo (43). They face multiple serious charges, including conspiracy to commit theft and conspiracy to traffic stolen property. Additionally, McColl and Sopterian are facing further charges related to making threats of violence, the unlawful production of fentanyl, and failing to comply with release orders.
Authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for a fourth individual, 58-year-old Nikola Scepanovic of Burlington. While Scepanovic remains at large, the other three suspects remain in police custody as the investigation into the criminal network continues.
