Prime Minister Mark Carney kicked off his meeting with Canada’s premiers today, pledging to confront the Trump administration at the negotiating table to secure a favorable trade deal for the country. He also committed to doing everything possible to strengthen the Canadian economy.

“We are looking for the best deal for Canada; we are only going to accept the best deal for Canada,” Carney stated on Tuesday.

Carney is providing a detailed briefing on his government’s ongoing trade negotiations with the Trump administration as both nations work towards reaching an agreement by August 1st.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes amidst the three-day first ministers’ meeting in the Muskoka region, where the premiers are discussing their collective response to the escalating trade dispute.

“The central issues to be addressed at this meeting are trade relations and our current trading relationship with the United States, and any steps we can take to build a strong Canadian economy,” Carney affirmed.
