New nation-building projects to be announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday will include mining and energy developments, sources have confirmed.
According to the sources, the new projects will include an LNG project in British Columbia, Ontario’s Crawford nickel project, the Sisson Mine in New Brunswick, and a hydroelectric development in Iqaluit.
These projects are being fast-tracked for approval under the Major Projects Office, which is being led by Dawn Farrell and was launched in August to streamline the approval process for projects of national significance.
The first round of projects was announced in mid-September and included an LNG project expansion, a nuclear project, a terminal container project, a copper mine in Saskatchewan, and a mine expansion in British Columbia. However, development on those projects was already well underway.
The next round of expected major projects is also currently at different stages of development.
