Health officials have announced another maternity diversion at Peace Arch Hospital, just one week after the previous one ended.
The new diversion is scheduled to run from 7 a.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Monday, Fraser Health said in a social media post, citing a “temporary gap in obstetrician-gynecologist coverage.”
“If you are in labour or have a pregnancy-related concern, please call the Maternity Unit first. Our staff will guide you to the appropriate hospital for care,” the health authority added.
The prior diversion occurred over the holiday season, from Dec. 29 to Jan. 1.
Ongoing staffing challenges prompted Fraser Health to set up a website providing updates on maternity diversions at both Peace Arch and Ridge Meadows hospitals.
Speaking to CTV News last month, Dr. Darren Lazare, Fraser Health’s regional head of obstetrics and gynecology, apologized to expectant parents for any stress caused by the situation.
“We are actively recruiting,” Lazare said. “Our search spans the province, the country, and even North America.”
