More than half of the commercial vehicles inspected in Burnaby and across the Lower Mainland during targeted enforcement efforts in 2025 were removed from service due to safety concerns.
Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services worked alongside 12 partner agencies last year to conduct 74 joint commercial vehicle enforcement operations, inspecting a total of 2,901 vehicles. Of those, 1,610 vehicles—about 56 per cent—were deemed unsafe and taken off the road. Officers issued 3,661 violation tickets during the joint operations.
Police say inspections continue to reveal poorly maintained commercial vehicles, including repeat offenders, which pose significant risks to road safety.
In addition to joint efforts, Burnaby RCMP carried out 47 local enforcement operations within the city, inspecting 1,399 vehicles. Of those inspections, 800 vehicles, or 57 per cent, were placed out of service, and 1,875 violation tickets were issued.
RCMP say the results underscore the need for continued enforcement and education, adding that they remain committed to working with partner agencies to identify safety hazards, improve compliance, and enhance road safety across the region.
