A day after British Columbia Conservative Leader John Rustad kick out high-profile MLA Elenore Sturko after learning that he had won the leadership review with just over 70 per cent of the vote, Sturko has forcefully denied accusations from Rustad that she was responsible for leaking confidential party information.
In an interview on RED FM Harjinder Thind Show, Sturko said Rustad had accused her of leaking to a radio host, a claim she called “unequivocally untrue.”
“I can tell you that it’s not true,” she said. “I was very stunned by that.”
Sturko suggested that the leaks were originating from within the party itself. She pointed to a report that came from the party’s executive last week, which was widely reported in the media.
“The media had stuff that was coming from our party’s executive,” she stated. “So clearly, this is a party that has information that’s leaking, but I can tell you that I wasn’t the one giving information to Jazz Johal.”
The comments came as Sturko discussed her abrupt dismissal from the party caucus, which followed Rustad’s win in a leadership review. She has stated that her refusal to pledge immediate loyalty to him amid allegations of “manufactured memberships” led to her firing.
