The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has charged an Ottawa man following an investigation into multiple allegations of immigration fraud.
The investigation began in September 2024, focusing on several incidents that allegedly occurred between January and July 2024. The suspect is accused of posing as an immigration consultant and defrauding multiple individuals.
As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Vinay Pal Singh Brar of Ottawa has been charged with: Fraud, Possess Stolen Property Over $5000, Assault, Assault by choking, and Uttering threats.
Authorities note that Brar operated under multiple aliases, including Gagandeep Singh, Warisdeep Singh, Waris Singh, Waris Deep Sehmi, and Harsh.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims across Canada, specifically in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Calgary, Vancouver, and Surrey.
