A group of White Rock residents and business owners are advocating for the city to merge with its neighbouring municipality, Surrey, through an online petition.

The petition cites concerns about transparency, fairness, and responsible governance under White Rock’s current leadership. Key issues include the city’s tree-cutting policy, taxation and development on unceded Indigenous lands, rising property insurance and tax rates, delays in business permitting, and other administrative challenges.

“Surrey’s larger and more robust administrative systems already have mechanisms to ensure transparency, enforce accountability, and efficiently deliver public services,” the petition states. Supporters argue that merging with Surrey would lead to faster permitting processes, improved public services, a broader tax base, and more effective use of taxpayer dollars.

The petition, initiated by Avtar Gill, is signed by a group calling themselves the “Concerned Residents and Business Leaders of White Rock.”
