North Vancouver RCMP are alerting the public about a rise in counterfeit $50 and $100 Canadian banknotes being circulated in the community.

Police say they have received at least 11 reports over the past two months of high-quality fake bills being used at local businesses. Officers note the seized counterfeit notes share identical serial numbers, are made from plastic similar to genuine currency, and feature holographic stickers designed to mimic real security elements.

RCMP remind the public that knowingly using or possessing counterfeit money is a criminal offence under the Criminal Code. Police also warn that businesses or individuals who unknowingly accept counterfeit cash cannot be reimbursed for their losses.

Authorities are encouraging businesses to check banknotes carefully and familiarize themselves with the security features of legitimate currency. Anyone with information about counterfeit bills is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP.
