No Okanagan stone fruit will be on the shelves this summer

An independent grocery store in the Lower Mainland say they won’t have Okanagan peaches, apricots, plums or nectarines on store shelves this summer due to the cold snap the province experienced early this year.

Lepp Farm Market in Abbotsford says its offerings will be different this season after the deep freeze in January. Lepp Farms is looking to source stone fruits from outside BC, but local apples and cherries may be available as their trees were able to withstand the cold.

The B.C. Fruit Growers’ Association has previously said it expected stone-fruit harvests to be down by at least 90 percent this year.
