EDMONTON, AB – Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi has officially secured a seat in the provincial legislature, winning the Edmonton-Strathcona by-election on Monday night. This victory marks his entry into the assembly after a year on the sidelines and sees him replace former premier Rachel Notley in the long-held party stronghold.

The former Calgary mayor received nearly 8,000 votes, significantly outperforming his closest rival, United Conservative Party candidate Darby Crouch, who secured just over 1,300 votes.
Nenshi’s NDP also claimed victory in Edmonton-Ellerslie, where their candidate, Gurtej Singh Brar, defeated United Conservative Party candidate Naresh Bhardwaj by more than 1,000 votes.
In the third by-election of the night, the UCP candidate, Tara Sawyer, comfortably won the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills constituency.
