Surrey Police Service are investigating an overnight shooting at a Newton-area business. However, SPS says there are currently “no confirmed links” to the recent wave of extortion-related incidents in the city.

Officers responded around 8:45 a.m. Friday to reports of bullet damage at a business near 124 Street and 82 Avenue. The business was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported. Early Friday afternoon, police remained on the scene at Star Autobody, which was open to customers as members of SPS and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service collected evidence.

While the incident bears similarities to other recent shootings, Sgt. Tige Pollock says the investigation so far does not suggest a connection to extortion cases, a concern frequently raised by the public. “We want to let the public know this doesn’t appear to be one of those incidents,” Pollock said.

Police continue to gather video and physical evidence and are urging anyone with information to contact them at 604-599-0502, quoting file number 25-89401 (SP). Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
