The union representing striking public sector workers in B.C. announced it will continue to escalate job action on Tuesday.

The BC General Employees’ Union stated that more workers have walked off the job at several sites in Victoria, Penticton, Cranbrook, Coquitlam, and Kamloops.

The sites include staff from the Ministries of Health, Public Safety, Children and Family Development, and Transportation.

On Monday, the union announced that employees from BC Liquor and Cannabis warehouses, as well as the head office, were also joining the strike.

Tuesday’s action brings the total number of workers engaged in job action to 12,500, with many spread across 33 active picket lines. The union says the escalation will continue throughout the week.
