Kelowna-Mission MLA Gavin Dew is demanding an immediate change in leadership at Interior Health, explicitly calling for CEO Susan Brown to resign.
“Interior Health can’t be fixed without change at the top,” stated Dew.
He further elaborated, “For weeks, families, healthcare workers, and community leaders across Kelowna and the Central Okanagan have been raising alarms about the state of healthcare in our region. Since the sudden closure of the pediatric unit at Kelowna General Hospital, there has been a growing drumbeat of letters and public comments from healthcare workers, pediatricians, gynecologists, specialists, and GPs expressing alarm about our crumbling healthcare system.”
Dew asserted, “It has become painfully clear that the current leadership of Interior Health has lost the confidence of both the people who work there and the people it is meant to serve.”
“We are in a crisis right now, and we cannot wait six months for change,” he added. “A turnaround of Interior Health cannot happen without rebuilding trust and reopening communication with frontline healthcare workers.”
“I am calling for Susan Brown to immediately resign as CEO of Interior Health, so that we can reset an organization in crisis,” Dew urged.
He concluded, “If she will not resign, I am calling for Minister of Health Josie Osborne to take immediate action to dismiss Ms. Brown and appoint an interim CEO while a permanent leadership transition is completed.”
“Minister Osborne has the power to act – and the responsibility to do so. Interior Health cannot afford to drift further into dysfunction. It’s time to put patients first, listen to the dedicated healthcare workers of the region, and restore faith in our healthcare system.”
“The status quo is not working. We need change and a full system reset now.”
