Meta announced Thursday that it is rolling out “teen accounts” on Facebook and Messenger globally, several months after introducing them in major English-speaking countries.

In a blog post, the company said, “We’ve placed hundreds of millions of teens in Teen Accounts across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, and now we’re expanding them to teens around the world on Facebook and Messenger.”

Designed for users aged 13 to 17, these accounts include enhanced security settings, content restrictions, and parental controls. Meta first introduced teen accounts on Instagram last year and expanded them to Facebook and Messenger in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the U.K. in April.

The features aim to address parents’ main concerns by automatically limiting who teens can interact with online, what content they see, and how they spend their time. Users under 16 cannot remove these restrictions without parental consent.

The move comes amid growing concern over teens’ social media use, including excessive screen time and insufficient moderation on some platforms.
