The City of Surrey has issued a statement to clarify the status of the Rotary Clubs at the South Surrey Fieldhouse. According to Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, the Rotary Clubs are not being evicted from the facility.

The mayor acknowledged that a legal notice sent on August 1 caused confusion. She explained that the notice was a necessary step under the current month-to-month agreement as the city prepares for a competitive process to find a new operator for the facility. Mayor Locke emphasized that the Rotary Clubs will continue to have access to their office and meeting spaces.

In the statement, the city also noted that it is working to address the needs of Coastal FC for equipment storage. City staff will meet with Rotary representatives to find an alternative solution for their book storage, ensuring their fundraising efforts can continue.

The city plans to issue an open Request for Proposal (RFP) in the fall of 2025 for the facility’s operator, and the Rotary Clubs are welcome to submit a proposal. The mayor expressed disappointment about the politicization of the issue and stressed that her focus, along with the council’s, is on finding the best solution for the community.
