A city councillor in Maple Ridge, B.C., has been charged with four counts of sexual assault involving at least two complainants.

The BC Prosecution Service says Ahmed Antar Yousef Mohamed was charged following a review by a special prosecutor appointed last year. That same review previously led to charges being approved against Mohamed in May, including assault, pointing a firearm, and other offences.

Special prosecutor Claire Hatcher has now completed her charge assessment related to an investigation led by the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment of the RCMP.

According to the prosecution service, Mohamed was charged Thursday in Port Coquitlam provincial court with three counts of sexual assault involving one complainant and a fourth count involving a different individual.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 12.

The prosecution service says publication bans are in place. However, after consulting with Hatcher, it determined that issuing a public statement about the charges was appropriate.
